QUALITY ASSURANCE & IMPROVEMENT in MEDICAL EDUCATION: What can Institutions and Faculty do ? I have the pleasure of being invited to deliver an Oration on this topic organised by Ramaiah University Bangalore in memory of the untimely demise of Prof Dr Latha , a FAIMER Philadelphia fellow . Patient safety is a matter of concern globally and linked to this is the concern about the quality of medical education in this globalised interconnected and interdependent world as they seek the answer to the question: What needs to be done by Medical Schools and Faculty like us to ensure we produce a type of Doctor whom we would go to with confidence when we fall ill ( ref UK’s “ Tomorrow’s Doctor document) . This webinar will attempt to answer the above questions so that both institutions and the Faculty are equally committed to take necessary action to ensure that patient safety is assured and institutions move towards excellence through putting systems in place that goes beyond just documentation on meeting mandatory accreditation standards ; to put in place an active institutional continuing renewal and improving the systems in place that undertakes and acts on educational research and program evaluation . #programevaluation #educationresearch#continuingqualityimprovement#systemsapproach#facultydeveopment#studentstakeholders# patientsafety#qualityassurance

Great news for those in the South East! There's an opportunity to gain valuable experience in transfer & retrieval, complete an anaesthetic stage 3 SIA or prepare for the DipRTM. This is interesting and satisfying work. Don't miss out, take a closer look! 👀🚑 #transfer #medicine

Speaking at a careers night for junior doctors at the local regional hospital, trying to get them to become GP/Rural/RG. Some themes over the speeches seem to be consistent. Almost all of the talking/thinking/physician like specialities seem to be in workforce shortage and offering lots of variety and life balance and opportunities for special interests. At least in regional areas this seems more true. Less shortage with the ‘doing’/procedural (and of course they will point out they are thinking) specialties. Do we think this is an effect of the kind of medical students we are choosing? Is it that the roles appear more enticing to doctors because of variety/challenge/hand eye skills? Are procedural roles desirable as they may be seen as less emotionally heavy?Or perhaps it is because our funding system has long favoured procedures over talking and the market is just responding to years and years of price signalling?Should we be looking at the way we fund the roles in medicine as the key part of overall reform? Feels like we are tinkering at the edges with all the blame being applied to ‘scope’ issues. (Photo of one of the communities, Karumba, that I visit where we will never get a procedural specialist to join us).

Have you considered hosting a clinical placement❓ Hosting a clinical placement can be as rewarding for the clinician as the student, with the opportunity to connect with a possible future associate as well as refreshing your knowledge and technique. A clinical placement provider working with Teesside University said: 💬 “Having the students has reminded me of what a potent thing it is to be a Chiropractor/Primary Care Provider and the duties to those we take care of. Somebody once said, “if you really want to understand something, teach it!”. The interactions of student and mentor are a prime example of this, it challenges both; helps both and the learning is mutual.”If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a clinical placement provider visit https://bit.ly/45xllWx. #Chiropractic #ClinicalPlacement
